ZERUI INDUSTRY / PRACTICAL PROCUREMENT
Choosing a metal nameplate material: stainless steel, H62 brass or aluminium
How should I choose metal for an industrial nameplate?
Short answer
Start with the installation environment, plate size, marking process and mounting method. Then compare 201/304/316L stainless steel, H62 brass and aluminium. A material grade alone does not establish corrosion performance or suitability; the application and artwork still require review.
Describe the service conditions before picking a grade
Tell the seller where the plate is mounted, whether it is indoors or outdoors, its exposure to coastal air or chemicals, how it will be cleaned, and how it will be maintained. These inputs shape the material, marking and attachment decision. A reference image cannot establish service suitability.
- Stainless-steel options: 201, 304 and 316L; confirm grade against the actual service conditions.
- H62 brass: consider it for a brass-toned appearance or a nickel-plated etched option; verify the finish with a sample.
- Aluminium: discuss weight, appearance and anodised finishes; no performance is guaranteed by material name alone.
Match the material to the lettering process
Etching, screen printing, laser marking, stamping and anodising solve different artwork and surface needs. Small text, colour count, hole pattern, plate thickness and quantity can change feasibility. Check the real artwork, finish expectations and a production proof before approval.
- Supply editable vector artwork, dimensions and the exact text.
- For barcodes, serial numbers or QR codes, separately confirm reading conditions and variable-data formats.
What to send ZERUI for a material review
Send the environment, dimensions, expected quantity, visual target and material preference, ideally with artwork. ZERUI reviews the chosen material and process against the project specification before issuing a formal quotation. No universal fixed price or guaranteed lead time is claimed.
- Review available grades in Materials, then choose and export a specification in Design Studio.
Follow-up questions
Is 316L always the best outdoor nameplate material?
Not automatically. Exposure, cleaning, finish and installation need review; grade alone cannot support a lifetime claim.
Does the illustrated metal finish guarantee production appearance?
No. Final colour, gloss and texture are subject to an agreed sample and approved artwork.
Can I ask for a quote before selecting the material?
Yes. Submit your material preference and application conditions for review before formal quotation.
